Adjustment

Most doors that have dropped or become out of alignment will become hard to close, draughty, and difficult to lock. Many people tolerate this, but the extra stress on the locking system will eventually cause something to break, rendering the door unusable. The good news is that by resetting the door to be level and square, it will be much easier to operate.

Facts:

uPVC doors drop due to poor glazing.
Composite doors cannot drop.
Do NOT use WD-40 on door locks (see our door care guide below).

Gaskets and seals degrade as the oil dries out, causing them to break up and leave gaps in the door’s weather seal or black streaks down the frames. Most gaskets can be replaced, but they need to be ordered in advance of fitting.

Facts:

There are 15 different types of seals and gaskets, with hundreds of sub-variations.
Door openings tend to have bubble or flipper gaskets.
New doors tend to have bonded compression seals.
Old doors tend to have wedge or e-gaskets and security glazing tape.
