Energy Saving Glass Testing/Detection

Testing for Low-E Coating to ensure your windows meet building control requirements

Low Emissivity
Glass Testing

It is alleged that up to 30% of installations by small independent companies are done incorrectly, according to a recent survey. Your home may not be energy-efficient because of this. Why pay thousands for the latest double glazing and not check if it is installed correctly or if you have actually received what you paid for?

Most people are unaware that, effective 1st April 2002, all new window installations in England & Wales are subject to BUILDING REGULATIONS (Document L).

This regulation specifically affects the minimum levels of insulation that windows must have when fitted in your home. Levels of insulation are measured as U values. The lower the U value, the better the insulation level. To achieve the required level of insulation, some sort of LOW-E glass (typically Pilkington K in the UK, although there are other brands) will have to be used.

If you have had new windows installed recently, we can test whether they have low-emissivity glass installed to meet building control requirements.

Low-E Detection

If you are having trouble with condensation on odd panes of glass, it could be due to incorrect fitting or the absence of low-E coating. A quick test can help eliminate the window as the cause of the problem.

Saving money

Installers may sell you energy-saving windows but install standard, non-energy-efficient glass. We can check if your windows meet Document L of the building regulations.

Toughened Glass

Toughened glass is required in risk areas of your home, such as doors and low-level windows. We can check if your windows and doors have safety glass as required by law.

Security upgrades

We are happy to offer recommendations for security and child safety upgrades, including lock and glass upgrades for security risk areas or safety locks on a child's bedroom window.
